In 1989, Dr. Irudayasamy and two dedicated Trustees founded the Institute of Research and Development for the Rural Poor Trust (IRDRP) to support society's most vulnerable members. The organization focuses on assessing community needs through participatory research and empowering people to find their own solutions. Operating in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry, IRDRP actively promotes education, health awareness, and the construction of housing, water, and sanitation facilities, especially in rural areas.

IRDRP has also provided critical support to disaster-affected communities, including those impacted by the 2015 Chennai Flood, focusing on underserved rural and tribal populations. In Tamil Nadu, IRDRP is recognized as a first responder in times of disaster. The organization collaborates regularly with local NGOs, government agencies, and community members to further its mission.
